What you need to know about prayer…….

I was reading my word when a few scriptures jumped out at me. The scriptures were talking about prayer and I was in desperate need of the reminder, I just didn’t know it yet! Prayer is so powerful. We are nothing without prayer. Let us look at the first scripture:

1. In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God for instance without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part. Matthew 6:14-15

This scripture just confirms what I have been taught about prayer. We have a part to play in prayer!

For example, if you are praying to God to live a long and healthy life, are you doing the things that will help you live healthier like exercising, eating healthy and so on. Is it not crazy to pray to live a long healthy life when you are living a life that totally jeopardizes your health? You smoke, drink, eat junk every single day, don’t exercise but at the same time you pray for a long healthy life! Are you getting the picture? This is just is one example though. When we pray we should ask God to show us what our part in whatever we are praying about is. God doesn’t want you to do everything. He wants you to do your part as a declaration of where your faith is at!

Your friend may be sick and your part could be to send them a get well card or encourage them. So pray and go do what God shows you to do.

I believed God wanted me to go on music tours but I had no money so I prayed but my part in all of this was to go and ask people for help. I had to step out and go ask for help. What is your part in what you are praying?

2. Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need, this isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. Matthew 7:7-11

Does this need any further explanation? Be direct with God. I struggled with this because I thought something’s were just too much for God. “What if it’s not what God wants” is what I asked myself. This was a very challenging word indeed! Because of circumstances and sin and other things I am not direct in prayer but God wants us to be direct! We don’t need to beat around the bush. We need to be bold as we come to Him.

And those are the two things I wanted to share about prayer……

  1. I agree. It’s not always enough to just pray, often times the way we show God that we have faith in what we are praying for is to do something about it, not to “help Him” (He obviously doesn’t need our help) but to start the process of having the prayer answered if it is His will for us. We can’t always pray and expect Him to hand over what we want, sometimes we actually need to take some action. Great post!

    • Thanks Anna. We are not to “help” Him but do our part. That is where the discernment comes!
But like you said, there are times were we just can’t pray and sit. We will need to get up and do our part. I will pray for you will not cut it at times!
Thanks for your comment! Enjoy the rest of your week.

  2. This is great Rolain. It’s true that we so often pray without realising that God can use us to be part of the solution/ answer to prayer. We can be very passive pray-ers…
May God fill each of us with boldness to pray in the knowledge that God can do anything, and can empower us to do mighty things too 🙂
