Let Go Of Negative Labels

Throughout our lives we have been picking up labels from family, friends, teachers, coaches, you name it.

But this is the thing, the majority of the labels we picked up are not accurate and

at times downright destructive. We need to be careful what labels we have adopted

and from where.

Take Moses for example.

God called him to lead His people out of Egypt. So as He called him,

He gave assurances that He would be with him but there was one thing

that was giving Moses second doubts about his ability to carry out what

God had called him to do. And that thing was the label or labels he was holding

on to.

“But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past

or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”

Exodus 3:10

Instead of saying “yes Lord”.

He almost let the labels he had stop him from walking into what God had for him.

And also note, God knew the potential Moses had. He knew the great things He would

do through him but Moses didn’t see any of that because of the labels he held on to.

And that’s the danger of holding on to the wrong labels. They limit what we think

God can do and blind us to the opportunities available to us.

We need to measure up every label we have, to what God says about us. We measure

them up to His word. If words spoken to us are not in line with what God says in His Word

then it needs to go.

And we also need to be careful about what we say to ourselves. That’s what happened to

Moses. He may have told himself and believed he was slow of speech and not eloquent

and in his mind those labels disqualified him from doing what God told him to do.

You probably know yourself better than anyone on this planet but at the end of the day

you need to remember that you did not create you, God created you!

And because He created you He knows every little thing about you. There is nothing He

doesn’t know about you but you on the other hand you don’t have the full picture. You don’t have all

the information. There is stuff missing.

So stop with the “this is the way I am” statements.

Stop with the “I am clumsy, I am forgetful,

I can’t do this, I can’t do that” statements.

You don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle so why label yourself and make “absolute” statements

about yourself?

God is the only one who can do that so go to Him to tell who you are, what you can do and the

amazing opportunities waiting for you.

Ask Him for help as you do this. There is no way you are going to get rid of the negative labels

in your life by yourself. Ask Him to show you what negative words you are holding on to.

And ask Him to replace those words/labels with His truth, with His Word.

And as I close I want to end with a quote I read that I love. It says,

“Let no label stick unless it was put there by God.”

Have a great weekend friends!

What Do You Believe?

What you believe about yourself is stronger than the potential you have.

God has created you with incredible potential with the intention you use it all. But the beliefs you have about yourself is what matters the most. For example, you can have the potential to be an astronaut but if you believe you don’t have what it takes or you believe you can’t be an astronaut then that’s what will happen.

Our negative beliefs about ourselves stop us from using all the potential God has given us. But enough of theories. I have proof of this principle from the word of God so let’s get into it.

The Israelites were God’s chosen people. They had incredible potential indeed. God was with them. From the time He led them out of Egypt to the Promise land He was with them. They had never know defeat, their clothes and shoes never wore out, they had a cloud to lead them by day and fire by night. So talk about potential. They finally reached the promise land and something interesting happened. The spies that went and spied out the land had a report for the people:

“We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large.”

“But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”

“We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

Numbers 13: 26-33

Potential was not enough for the Israelites to obtain what God promised them. It boiled down to what they believed and what they believed stopped them from possessing the promise land save for Joshua and Caleb. They believed they couldn’t win. They believed they were grasshoppers. But remember, God had delivered them from the Egyptians, and looked after them in the desert.

That’s how powerful our beliefs are.

We need to take a long hard look at the beliefs we have. Where have we picked up the beliefs we currently hold? Are they from the word of God or from people around us? Our beliefs should be based on the word of God because the Word is truth. It doesn’t change and can’t be shaken. It is solid and is our foundation.

What you believe is important.

Let’s look at one more example. Gideon had so much potential in him. When the angel of the Lord appeared to him, he called him a mighty man of valor (Judges 6;1). That was the potential in him but for as long as Gideon could remember, he was made to believe something else. He was made to believe he was the least of the least which wasn’t true.

But the good news is that, God changed Gideon’s belief. The potential was always in him to be a mighty man of valor but work had to be done on his beliefs and when the belief changed he became what God created him to be! I love that.

I have had some crazy beliefs in the past about myself. Crazy, negative beliefs, but God has changed them. The outdated beliefs I held for so long have been changed and He continues to change them. Outdated, negative beliefs don’t change in a day. It takes time and it’s a process. God wants us to believe in Him. He wants us to believe in the promises and plans He has for us.

So as I come to the end of the post I want to encourage you to ask God to show you the beliefs that are holding you back and know that outdated, negative beliefs can be changed. God wants to help you.

God bless you friends.

Start speaking better today.

“From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things.”

Proverbs 13:2

This is another thing God has been speaking to me about this year. I have been challenged

to improve the quality of my words. It’s especially hard to speak life when things don’t

seem to be going our way or when things are just bad but we need to. The word is very

very clear when it comes to the words we speak.

If you want to enjoy good things then start speaking better. Don’t allow yourself to speak

negatively when things are not going your way.

“From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands

brings them reward.”

Proverbs 12:14

It’s easy to speak positively when everything is going well but quite another story when we are

on the ground and losing. Speaking life doesn’t just happen, it’s a choice on our part. And just to

be clear I am not talking about pumping yourself up with motivational words only. I am talking about

declaring the word of God in your situations. Any one can say “everything is going to be okay” but

it is something else when you take God’s word and declare it as truth for yourself. Declaring

the word of God is powerful.

“From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled, with the harvest of their lips they are

satisfied.”

Proverbs 18:20

What are you trusting God for? Declare it, speak it out. Don’t let your faith remain silent. Speak

out what you believing for. Let’s this truth be something you use more and more in your life.

And not just in your life but in the life of others. Your friend may not have enough faith to declare

Healing over themselves but you can do it on their behalf. Use your words to encourage and inspire.

It’s time to work on the words that come out of our mouths today. Things begin to happen when we

speak out God’s word in our situations!

Bless you friends

Give up outdated beliefs……

THOUGHT OF THE DAY.

As the year is coming to an end I have been thinking about my beliefs.

What we believe is really important in the bigger scheme of things.

Because the truth of the matter is, what you believe will always override potential.

No matter how much potential you have, what you believe will determine

what you do and can do in life.

I remember reading how circus elephants are trained. When they are young

they tie them to a tree or something they won’t be able to break. When

they grow up the trainers still tie them to that same object fully convinced they won’t

break free and the elephants despite their incredible size and weight  don’t break free

even though they could if they tried. They have been conditioned from childhood that

they can’t break the cord so they don’t try!

YAH has put so much potential in us but if we think we can’t do it then that’s exactly

what will happen, we won’t do it!

We need to get rid of outdated beliefs. Those negative beliefs will stop us dead in our tracks.

YAH has so much in store for us but we need to take a long hard look at the beliefs we hold

in every area of our lives.

The conditioning has been going on for a very long time and that is why we need to take time

when looking at the different beliefs we hold.

The way you will know a belief is wrong is by holding it up to the Word of God.

The word is TRUTH, not A truth but THE truth.

And realize that all it takes for a belief to be a negative belief is it to be inconsistent with the

word of God. It doesn’t need to be out rightly wrong or bad, it just needs to be slightly different from

what the word of God says!

I know there are some outdated beliefs I am still operating in, holding on to.

But I bring them to YAH and ask Him to change them with new beliefs, beliefs that

are based on His unchanging TRUTH.

It’s only by changing my beliefs that I can fully maximize my potential.

You can’t work at your maximum potential if your beliefs are wrong.

As we say goodbye to 2017 and say hello to 2018 let’s look at the erroneous beliefs that

we have been living with. Beliefs that we didn’t necessarily give ourselves but were kind of

given to us when we didn’t know better.

What beliefs are you living by today?

Let the Word of God be your measure.

Are the beliefs you living by propelling you or stifling you??

Are they in line with the Word of God or contradicting it?

As I close remember that self belief will always override potential.

YAH has a bright future for you (read Jeremiah 29:11) so get rid of outdated beliefs

that will stop you from walking into the amazing things He has for you.

Bless you friends….

Will you wait….???

Be strong and let your heart take courage,

all you who wait for and hope for and expect

the Lord!

Psalm 31:24

If you think waiting on God is a walk in the

park think again……

If you have really waited on God you will

know the truth. It’s a fight to wait.

Psalm 31 captures it perfectly.

Waiting is not for the faint of heart.

The word says take courage!

There have been things I have been waiting

on God for. I have been waiting for months

and years! It’s been such a test. But do I regret

the wait? Not on your life. The waiting was needed.

It played an important part in my growth as a son

of God and it still does…..!

You see, waiting reveals where you are really

at with God. It reveals your heart.

The Israelites saw that they were in trouble.

They felt trapped. They ran away to hide in

caves and cracks in the rock. They hid among

the rocks, in wells, and in other holes in the

ground.

Some Hebrews even went across the Jordan

river to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul was

still at Gilgal. All the men in his army were

shaking in fear.

Samuel said he would meet Saul at Gilgal.

Saul waited there seven days. But Samuel

had not yet come to Gilgal, and the soilders

began to leave Saul. So Saul said, “Bring

me the burnt offerings and the fellowship

offerings.” Then Saul offered the burnt

offering.

As soon as Saul finished offering that sacrifice,

Samuel arrived. Saul went out to meet him.

Samuel asked, “What have you done?”

1 Samuel 13:6-11

There is such an important lesson in this story.

Waiting is its own kind of fire. The offering of the

burnt offering was reserved for the priest but

Saul even though was king did it.

God has a reason for making us wait and even

though we don’t understand we must wait. I

have been waiting for a long time for a lot

of things. It has been hard I must admit but I

see it’s what I must do.

God is in control even though it’s hard to see

at times.

If you are waiting for God, be strong. It takes a

strong person to wait on the Lord.

Let your heart take courage. The enemy wants us

to panic and take matters in our own hands.

Waiting is one of the greatest acts of trust we can

perform to God.

Impatience shows God our lack of trust in Him.

God’s promise to you may take weeks, months or

years but wait!! He can be trusted…….

He is working in the waiting! Some of His most

important work happens in the waiting so don’t

despise it.

Don’t lose heart….

You are on His heart….

He has not forgotten about you…..

He is true to His word…..

Amen

What God thinks about our desires…….

You have given him his heart’s desire and have

not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

[pause, and think of that]! Psalm 21: 2 (Amplified)

A very interesting passage of scripture if you ask me.

As I read it I thought about desire. What role does

desire play in the life of a believer?

What does God think about our desires?

I guess that’s the most important question.

If we are going to talk about desire we need

to talk about disappointment. How many times

desire has come only to be disappointed……

but is that God’s plan?

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you

the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3

The thing a wicked man fears shall come upon

him, but the desire of the [uncompromisingly]

righteous shall be granted. Proverbs 10:24

May He give you the desire of your heart and

make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4

I think you will agree with me that God wants

us to have desires.

I may even dare say that some of the desires you

have where given to you by God…!!!

This is my point, don’t abandon desire. It is

not wrong to have desires.

The pharisees did away with desire. They were

into following rules and traditions. All I am saying

is that, God wants to give you the desires of

your heart.

But desire is much too complex to end here.

It is your responsibility to bring your desires

before God. You can pick up desires from the

wrong things and that is why you need

to bring them to God. An unchecked desire

is a dangerous thing so be careful.

Let’s look at the Psalms 21:2 again:

You have given him his hearts desire

and have not withheld the request of

his lips. Selah [pause, and think of that]

David may have written this Psalm so

he may be talking about himself.

If that’s so then God gave him his hearts

desire and never withheld his the request

of his lips!!! That is amazing right….

Are you talking to God about the desires

that are in your heart or have you buried

them deep, so deep that you don’t

even know what they are? You have not

allowed yourself to desire because you

fear being disappointed.

My advice to you is, don’t abandon

desire. There is a chance it might be

thwarted but desire anyway. That

could just mean it was not of God.

Don’t be afraid of your desires.

Stand them up to the word of God and

let them go if they are not from God.

He has given you the desires of your

heart and His desire is that they be

fulfilled…..

What is God’s will for my Life????

God created each and everyone of us for a purpose. He made no mistakes when He created us. But there are a lot of people who don’t know what their purpose is on the earth. What is God’s will for my life, is one of the most asked questions among Christians. You see, everything around us speaks to us about destiny. If there is one thing you cannot deny is the fact that, everything on this earth has a purpose! For example, let us take a look at  a butter knife. It is a knife but it was made for a specific purpose. It was made so it could be used to spread butter on bread. You cannot use it to cut wood. It was not made for that.

The butcher knife on the other hand was made to cut harder things. Does it make it better than the butter knife, no! It makes it different. Each has a different function. What am I trying to get at, you might be wondering? My goal is to show you that everything is made with a purpose and that goes for us. What is our purpose?

To find out what our purpose is we need to look to the Word of God. There is so much in there for us. Let us look at a familiar passage of scripture which says,

  New American Standard Bible
“The people whom I formed for Myself Will declare My praise.  Isaiah 43:21

We were created with the sole purpose of worshiping God!!! God created you and me to worship Him. You were specifically made to do that. Everything else comes after that. Yes, you are a doctor, lawyer, athlete, pilot, governor, and so on but God created you to worship Him!!! Our purpose is to worship God in the place He has called us to be in. David was a king and a warrior but he was a worshiper! King David says in Psalm 119:164 –  New International Version
Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.

He understood he was created to praise God. The Word says, the people I formed for myself WILL….not might, or if they feel like but WILL!!! It is a command and not a suggestion. God doesn’t command us to do things just for the sake of being difficult but because He knows there is a blessing. Will you answer to the challenge? Will you answer the call to live a life of worship. We were created to worship God! As you do that everything else will fall into place.
