Giants and Walls.

“But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!” But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!””

‭‭Numbers‬ ‭13:30-31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Because of fear the ten spies thought the promise land was off-limits to them. They saw the giants and walls and thought the game was over. But the Lord’s word and promises had not changed. The promise land was still theirs to take.

But that got me thinking about my own life. What had I written off because of fear or doubt?

What dreams and desires that I had and have did I think were off-limits?

Especially with all that has happened this year. Everything was locked down and it seemed like nothing could be done.

But the truth is the Lord wants you to accomplish everything He has created you to do. No matter how impossible and out there it seems the Lord wants you to trust Him.

Keep trusting the Lord and take that step of faith and see Him do the impossible in your life.

“I don’t understand”…….

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the

man void of understanding;

and, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had

covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was

broken down.  Proverbs 24:30, 31

This is a very familiar passage of scripture. As I read it

something jumped out at me that I didn’t see before. People

who know this scripture talk about it in context of laziness

but there is more.

The lazy man was not just lazy but was void of understanding!

Those two things are not the same.

Look at the effects of not having understanding:

His vineyard was all grown over with thorns

The nettles had covered the face thereof

The stone wall thereof was broken down!

To own a vineyard you had to have some sort of wealth.

This man had wealth. He knew stuff but…..

What happened??

How could he let things just decay like that?

My pastor taught me that

the problem in the world today is not a knowledge problem.

We have a wisdom problem!  And I think that applies here.

In all his “knowing” the man didn’t apply what he knew. He didn’t

pursue understanding! In other words, he didn’t seek to

understand what was going on. He was wealthy but he didn’t seek

to understand how to use it!

I was challenged when I read that scripture. Laziness is deadly

but not having understanding is just as deadly. The man’s walls

were broken down!

We need to make it a goal to get understanding. Don’t settle

for knowledge only but seek understanding!

As I looked at my life after reading this scripture I saw areas

where I was like the man who was void of understanding.

Laziness crept in because he had no understanding!

I asked myself, do I have understanding?

It’s not enough to just know about something? It’s not enough

to have information, because that is all it will ever be, information.

Understanding comes when you apply what you know.

It’s not too late to get understanding. There

is so much going on today. A lot of people don’t have understanding

and it’s destroying them. Their walls are broken down, with thorns

all grown over. We have a chance……

Am I void of understanding or

Am I seeking to understand?

Where are you at?

Does God See Me???

God sees what you do. You may think your work for Him is going unnoticed but it’s not.
Take Benjamin and Hasshub for example. (Nehemiah 3:23) Work was going on around them as the  walls of Jerusalem were being built. People were getting involved.

“How can we get involved” they must of being thinking? I don’t think they ever imagined beyond their wildest dreams that thousands of years later people would know the part they played in the building of the wall!!! The word says they repaired the wall opposite their house!!! It was as simple as that. A lot of people think God’s will is complicated and complex but it’s not. What is in your hands?  How you live this life counts. Especially a life lived for God…….

What you do in this life counts but it goes the other way as well
There were a group of people who didn’t think what they did mattered. They didn’t take the work God had called them to do seriously.

Next to them the Tekoites repaired, but the nobles or lords did not put their necks to the work of their Lord.
Nehemiah 3:5

Let that not be our story. God has a plan for your life. Take it seriously!
The enemy comes against us and his goal is to discourage us. To say we should never get discouraged is unrealistic. We will get discouraged but how we respond is key.

And [the leaders of] Judah said, The strength of the burden bearers is weakening, and there is much rubbish; we are not able to work on the wall.
Nehemiah 4:11

The people were getting tired. They were working and working but nothing seemed to change. The rubble was still there. They thought their work was in vain. But let me ask you this, what if you were sent back into time to to speak to the people now? If you have read the rest of Nehemiah you will know that the people completed the wall. You know how the story ends.  So with what you know wouldn’t you tell them to keep on pushing and not give up???

Be encouraged because God sees our lives like that!! He sees the start and the finish line. He sees a good end. We are like the people in the story. We need to ask God to teach us how to see differently. We need to see like He does. How would life be if we saw like He did? What if we saw the BIG PICTURE! It would be different for sure. We would push longer and we would trust Him. We would be assured our lives would work out. And that is what I am here to tell you. Everything will be OK. Your work is not for granted. What you do in this life matters to God.
