Unworthy!

As I got ready to serve at church today I had a thought;

I am not worthy to stand before the Lord.

I am not worthy to serve before His people.

Today is Resurection Sunday and it is a strong day!

Jesus conquered the grave and set us free and here I was

having these thoughts.

My mind immediately went to the movie “Thor”

Yes people, I was thinking about “Thor” during church!    😦

I thought about his hammer and how the only person able

to wield it had to be “worthy”!

There was a time in “Thor” when he wasn’t worthy. His dad

banished him from Asgard and took his hammer.

As he banished him to another world he sent the hammer

after him and spoke to it saying, “anyone worthy enough would

wield it”. Those are not the exact words but they were something

to that effect.

But this is the thing, can we be worthy?

Thor became worthy after he realised the errors of his ways.

By his own strength he became worthy but I think they got it

wrong there.

We cannot become worthy on our own. It’s impossible!

In fact, I don’t think it’s about that at all.

On this earth we will always be flawed. We will sin and struggle

with sin but it’s because Jesus Christ is worthy that we can

stand before Him!

“Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “

Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”

And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was

able to open the scroll, or look at it.

Revelation 5:2, 3

No one was worthy to open the scroll!

No one IS worthy still…..!!

No one but Him!

“So I wept much, because on one was found worthy to open and

read the scroll, or to look at it.

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion

of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open

the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the

four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb

as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes,

which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him

who sat on the throne.

Revelation 5: 4-7

It’s a long passage of scripture and I encourage you to read

the whole chapter but the point is this. He was and is the only

One who is worthy! Our mission is not to become worthy but

we are to trust in the saving power of the cross every single

day of our lives. We are to trust in the One who is worthy!

That’s what this day is about.

Death, the enemy, thought he

had won but he was wrong. Jesus Christ was the winner.

He saved us and made us righteous. Because of Him we can

stand confidently!

I don’t serve because I am worthy because I am the man,

because I am perfect, far from it! I serve because God makes

me able to serve.

On this strong day I realised I am unworthy, yes! But because

of what He has done He has makes me able to stand.

I rely on His grace and mercy consistently because without it

I would be a dead man walking, I would have no future, no hope,

nothing!

He is the One who is worthy! Amen and amen!!

Happy Resurrection Sunday to you all!

Taking Responsibility For The Next Generation!!!

Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this Your people who are so great?
2 Chronicles 1:10

This was what King Solomon prayed to God when God asked him what he wanted. Instead of asking for wealth or long life or a whole host of other things, he asked God for wisdom to guide the nation of Israel!!!!
How did this young man who was about to lead so great a nation know what to ask for?

Today we have a lot of kids who are not growing up in the way of the Lord. We have kids who are passionate about everything but God. We have young people who will not raise their hands to God in praise! The things of God don’t seem to interest our kids but why? As mentor’s and parents we blame Facebook and other social networks, we blame television but the truth is, it’s our fault! We have not set a good example. We watch anything and everything but expect our kids to be pure in what they watch!
Our kids are not passionate because WE are not passionate. We read our bibles once a week and expect our kids to read their bibles daily. We eat trash but we teach our kids to eat right!!! Something is wrong with that picture.                               Even if you don’t have kids yet this applies to you. Are you on fire for God? Do you read your word? Are you a passionate person?
King David managed to transfer his vision to Solomon. Could you say that about your kids? Do they know what God has called them to do?  Do they know your vision? Look at what the next scripture says:

When I [Solomon] was a son with my father [David], tender and the only son in the sight of my mother [Bathsheba],
He taught me and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.
Proverbs 3:3-27

Solomon asked for wisdom because his dad treasured it. His dad would sit down and talk to him about it.
As mentors, teachers, and parents we have the responsibility of leading the way. I wrote a post sometime ago entitled Our kids at War. They are at war and they are losing. They need more role models. They need someone to follow. But how can they follow us if we are not passionate about God and we are lukewarm???? It won’t work. Let us follow King David’s example and raise up our kids in the admonition of the Lord….

As we do that our kids will be stronger. They will be able to stand on our shoulders as we lead them.

Are You Really Praising God?

As christians, do we really understand praise? Praise is more than a song that we sing on sunday, so much more! How would you rate yourself in the area of praise? Do you regard yourself as someone who understands praise and really praises God? In this post my goal is to challenge the preconcieved ideas of praise that we have. So let’s get going.
Psalms 67:3 is the where I am teaching from. It says:

Let the peoples praise You [turn away from their idols] and give thanks to You, O God; let all the peoples praise and give thanks to You.

Psalm 67:5 says the same thing.
In this verse the definition of praise is turning away from idols! So in other words, if you turn away from idols you are praising God! On the other hand, if you are serving idols you are not praising God!
That is just one aspect of praise we are looking at. So I will ask the question again. Are we really praising God? Praise should be a lifestyle and not a once a week thing! True praise permeates every aspect of our lives. True praise changes us!
As christians we are called to praise God and give thanks to Him. The last part of that verse says,

“Let all the peoples praise and give thanks to You”.

Let ALL the people praise and give thanks! Let us as the body of Christ turn away from idols that we have allowed in our lives. It is so easy to serve idols nowadays. It is not just the people who bow down to physical objects that are wrong but it’s people who in their hearts have not made God the center of everything! It’s people who refuse to allow God into that one area that they been holding on for so long!
This is a constant fight for me. I know there are areas that I have not surrendered to God. I know this is not pleasing to God. He is looking for true worshippers. I want to really praise God. I have made a decision to make a stand against idolatry in my life!!
Will you take a stand against idolatry like I have done? Will you allow God in? Beecause in God’s eyes that is true praise!
