God has a name for you.

“And they journeyed from Bethel and had but a little way to go to Ephrath [Bethlehem]

when Rachel suffered the pangs of childbirth and had hard labor.

When she was in hard labor, the midwife said to her, Do not be afraid; you shall have this son

also. And as her soul was departing, for she died, she called his name Ben-oni [son of my sorrow];

but his father called him Benjamin [son of the right hand].

Genesis 35:16-18

As Rachel was dying she called her son Ben-oni and rightly so in her mind because she was about

to die. Because of the pain she was experiencing she named him but Jacob gave him another name.

A name of blessing which spoke of God’s plan and purpose for his life.

The temptation is great to listen to the names people call us because we think they “know” us.

We allow the words of man to define us because we think they really do know us. Either because

they have been friends for a really long time or because they are family but the truth of the matter

is that God is the only One who really knows us. We need to look to Him to tell us who we are and

not man.

I am not saying we should stop listening to the encouraging words of friends, family, mentors, teachers

and the other people in our lives but what I am saying is that we need to be very careful we don’t stop

with what they tell us we can be or do.

Rachel is a picture of man who makes decisions about us and speak based on what they see.

Jacob is a picture of God and what He sees. Even when it’s not clear to us or anyone else, God knows

the plans He has for us.

He knows all the great things we will do and that’s what He speaks over us.

“Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying,

Because I bore him in pain.

Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and

that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me!

And God granted his request.”

1 Chronicles 4:9, 10

Jabez was given a name by man but he prayed for God to bless him. He was tired of being called

Sorrow-Maker. He knew God had something better for him so he prayed and God granted

his request! I love that so much. You don’t have to live by what man says you can or can’t do.

Just because man thinks you can’t doesn’t mean that’s true. What matters is what God thinks and

says about you!

For a long time I lived by other people’s scripts. I was okay with living in the box they made for me. But

when I gave my life to Christ things changed radically. The Lord opened my eyes to what He had in store

for me. He showed me a glimpse of what He had in store which was so much higher and greater than

what man said I could do. Bit by bit the chains began to be broken off.

Don’t let man define what you can do. Let God’s word be what directs you and drives you.

Don’t be limited by all the perceptions and images man has put on you.

God has an amazing plan for your life.

Let go of the words that have been spoken over you that have limited you and live

by who God says you are.

Bless you friends

The “truth” he shouldn’t have lived by…..

Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother

named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, because I

bore him in pain.

Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You

would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your

hand might be with me, and  You would keep me from

evil so it might not hurt me!

And God granted his request.

2 Chronicles 4:9, 10

This is a very well known story. Jabez life was not going

well. Nothing seemed be going well for him.

The bible tells us, “Jabez was honorable above his brothers,

but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker]”

As he grew up those words became a part of him. Every where

he went those words were being reinforced!

But this is the thing, his mother called him “Sorrow Maker”

because SHE had a painful experience!

It’s crazy to think how her experience shaped the life of her

son.

It’s sad because her truth was not Jabez’s truth. God did

not create Jabez to be a sorrow maker. That was not what

God had in mind when He made him.

Like Jabez, we have believed other people’s “truth”.

Just remember, thier truth no matter who they are

is their truth. It becomes your truth when you accept it.

For a season, “sorrow maker” was the truth Jabez lived

by. For a season he allowed his mother’s words to shape

him and define him.

What about you my friends? What “truths” have you

allowed into your lives?

For a long time I lived by other people’s truth’s. They

saw me a certain way and imposed what they saw.

But God showed me how to live by His truth! Taking advise

is okay, accepting correction is okay but I am constantly

reviewing what other people are trying to impose on me.

I want to live by God’s truth and not man’s.

The problem with living another person’s “truth” I found

is this, their truth always falls short of God’s truth. Their

“truth” always puts me in a box. It creates a very small

world to live in when God’s world is so much bigger and greater

than I can ever imagine!

Encouraging words from friends I accept, words that build

I accept, words that inspire  me to be all that I am I accept

because that’s all in line with God’s truth. If it doesn’t

match up to His truth I probably won’t listen to it.

God wants us to break free of the negative words people

have spoken over our lives. We have to make a decision

to live by the real truth.

I am not saying stop listening to everyone. Instead I am

saying be more careful what you listen to. If it contradicts

what God has put in your heart then say no. Don’t just accept

anything anyone says.

Let’s get back to Jabez.

God’s plan for Jabez was to always bless, protect, and enlarge.

And when he realised what was happening he cried out to

God for help. And guess what, God granted his request!

Jabez was tired of living the way he was living. He wasn’t

happy with his circumstances. He didn’t want things to

remain the same any longer.

There was a time Jabez’s name was associated with sorrow but

God changed that and now it is associated with blessing!

What the enemy meant for harm God turned for good….

And He will do the same thing for you if you cry out to

Him.

So whose “truth” will you live your life by?

God bless you friends!!

Why am I going through this???

Ever feel overwhelmed with life?

Ever feel like everything is too much and you just want to tap out?

I was reflecting on my life this week (I have been doing a lot of

that lately). A lot has happened already this year good and bad.

Its easy to get discouraged these days. It’s easy to think God has

abandoned you! It’s easy to give up. I say that because as I was

reflecting on my life and the plans I had for this year, things I

want to do, places I want to go to, eveything felt so overwhelming!!

I cried out to God in that time. I asked Him to help me! I looked

to God for some sort of answer to the craziness I was feeling…..

Then it came, the answer,

I realised God is in control, He knows exactly where I am. Not sort

of or a bit confused but He knows EXACTLY where I am!

Then another thought came to me,

God intentionally allowed me to be here because He knew the

next opportunity, the next door will only open when I am here! No

matter how hard it is, how hopeless it seems this is the place that

will make it possible for the other door to open!

I need to be in this space if I am to walk in the next amazing door

God has for me! This place is preparing me for the next place where

ever that “place” is!

Think about Jabez:

Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, Because I bore him in pain. Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request. (‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭4‬:‭9-10‬ AMP)

He was in a difficult situation. His story is not just about being named

Jabez. From the day he was born he was called Jabez. Who knows

the ridicule he went through as a teen. All we know it got to a point

that he had enough! He cried out to the Lord!

He needed to be there for God to move on his life!

He needed to be in that place for the next door to open!

Did he enjoy being ridiculed and the struggle?

Did he feel helpless and hopeless?

I would like to think so but dispite all that,

GOD HAD A PLAN FOR HIM!

What about Joseph?!!!

He had a dream but he was sold into slavery! After things seemed

to turn around he was then  thrown into prison!

And Joseph’s master took him and put him in the prison, a place where the state prisoners were confined; so he was there in the prison. (‭Genesis‬ ‭39‬:‭20‬ AMP)

But as we all know, Joseph had to be in Egypt!! Joseph didn’t

understand at first but he needed to be there! Yes it seemed like

God abandoned him, yes it seemed like God was cruel and heartless

but the truth is, God was with him every step of his way!

For the next door to open Joseph had to be in Egypt! For

Joseph to accomplish God’s call on his life he had to go to

Egypt!

What does all that mean you might be thinking?

You might be in a place that is hard, a place where nothing

seems to be happening, a place that seems like a dead end but

that’s not true! That “dead-end” is where the next door is going

to open! It’s where that next big promotion will come through!

It’s where you will get to know God more!

It’s where breakthrough will come through!

Don’t quit, don’t tap out, but trust in the Lord.

Your promotion is around the corner, amazing things are in store

in that hard, frustrating place!

Things may seem dead and inactive but that’s not true! There is a lot

happening in the background! God is busy, He has gone ahead

of you to prepare the way!

So to end my story, after realizing all this I realized I don’t need

to worry! My life is in God’s hands. He knows everything I am

going through.

He has an amazing plan for my life.

I just need to trust Him consistently!

Where I am is exactly where He needs me to be because

the next door will open here and no where else!

And that is the same for you if you will trust Him!

He has only good things in store for you! Amen  😄
