Focus on Him, not the waves…

Life can be really tough right and what makes it worse is when we focus all our energy and attention on

the problems we are facing. We worry, stress out, fear, panic and fret as we dwell upon all the problems

we face but there is a better way.

I was stressing out this week. Things were not going well and I was panicking and anxious but I remembered

Peter.

In faith, Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water but as he was approaching the

Lord the word says he began to be aware of his surroundings (the enormous waves and the wind)

and became frightened and began to sink. (read Matthew 14:27-30)

“Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him,

O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14: 27-31

As long as Peter set his gaze upon the Lord he walked on water but when he took his eyes off the

Lord and focused on what was happening around him he began to sink and I know that’s what

was happening to me. But the Lord wants me to keep my eyes on Him in the midst of the trouble that

comes my way.

What are you focused on today?

Are you focused on your problems more than the Lord?

Consider  Psalm 91:14, 15:

“Because he has focused his love on Me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows

my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will

deliver him, and I will honor him.”

The enemy would like us to get our minds off Christ. he doesn’t want us being victorious. he loves

it when we are in bondage, in fear, anxious and stressed.

But the Lord wants us to be free. He wants us to receive the answers and solutions we need to

the problems we are facing.

Let’s stop focusing on the waves. Let us focus on the Lord no matter how terrifying the storm is.

He is bigger than any storm we will ever face and that is why He wants us to focus on Him!

Bless you, friends…

Thinking about the next generation…….

It’s been an amazing weekend indeed.

If you didn’t know, I work at my church’s children’s ministry. It’s such an honor

working there.

This weekend was amazing because we had a grade seven graduation. Grade seven’s

are twelve year old’s and every year we release them from children’s ministry with a

dinner and graduation. The dinner happens on a Friday night and the actual graduation

happens on Sunday in the main service. It was really emotional because as leaders we

have been with the children from the time they were six. So seeing them become

men and women of God before our very eyes is something so amazing that cannot be put into words.

My desire for them is that they grow deeper into YAH and not stray from the

path they are on.

But that got me thinking about the next generation. We need to do all that we can to teach them

the way of the Lord!

You may not be serving in a children’s ministry like I do but I want to challenge you,

Is there something you can do?

I encourage you to read Deuteronomy 6:6.

I know it addresses the parents but we can get involved!

David writes in the book of Psalms,

“So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might

to another generation, your power to all those to come. “

Psalm 71:18

There is a generation that is coming that needs to know there is a God who

loves them and has a plan for their lives.

There is a generation that needs to know there is a God who will never forsake them.

There is so much they need to know about YAH and His ways……

The enemy doesn’t want the next generation to grow up knowing YAH.

He wants to take them out. But we can’t let him!

When YAH sees you, He doesn’t just see you, He sees the generations in you.

Look at Abraham.

YAH had a plan for his life and that plan included the generations in him!

So I will ask the question again,

Is there a way you can touch the next generation?

Bless you friends

The inside job!

new-birth

“So observe and practice all they tell you; but do not do

what they do, for they preach, but do not practice. “

Matthew 23:3

Jesus was speaking to the multitudes and his disciples about the

Pharisees. The things they did were so crazy.

“Now Jesus turned to address His disciples, along with the

crowd that had gathered with them.

The religion scholars and Pharisees are competent teachers in

God’s law. You won’t go wrong in following their teachings on

Moses. But be careful about following them.

They talk a good line, but they don’t live it. They don’t take it

into their hearts and live it out in their behavior. It’s all

spit-and-polish veneer.

Their lives are perpetual fashion shows, embroidered prayer

shawls one day and flowery prayers the next.

They love to sit at the head table at church dinners, basking

in the most prominent positions, preening in the radiance

of public flattery, receiving honorary degrees, and getting

called ‘Doctor’ and ‘Reverend’.”

Matthew 23:1-9

They were all about the outward man. They

wanted to be seen, they wanted to be respected, and a whole

heap of other things but they missed something very

important – the inner man. They were not interested about who

they were on the inside. Let me share a scripture with you that

will bring more understanding of what I am saying,

“You’re blessed when you get your inside world-your mind and

heart-put right.

Then you can see God in the outside world.”

Matthew 5:8

How much time are you putting into working on the inner man?

How much time are you putting into changing the way you think?

How much time are you putting into developing your character?

How much time and effort are you putting into loving God with

all of you?

The Pharisees focused on the wrong things.

Because of that they missed Jesus.

If we are to grow in our relationship with God we need to take

more time focusing on the inner man.

We need to be real with ourselves about who we are and bring

it to Jesus. Where is your heart? Where is your mind?

Are you becoming like Christ daily?

Let’s not make the same mistake the Pharisees made.

Let’s get the inside man right first.

What’s the point of being in a position of power and influence

but you lie, cheat, steal, tear down people, and gossip??

Who are you helping if you have all the money in the

world but are rude, arrogant, brash, cruel, angry

all the time, unloving, uncaring and so on???

Let’s take more time working on the inner man. You are blessed

when you do that.

Bless you friends

He was with her!!!!!

(This is a special post in honor of Women’s Day.)

In the last week of January we had a men’s conference. We

had a great time of worship and fellowship. As great as that was

that is not what stood out for me. The word our pastor preached

really drove home the importance of the mission and assignment

God has given us men. It was a message that challenged me to

the core. As men we have a huge responsibility that must not be

taken lightly. (don’t worry ladies, it will all make sense in a bit) !!

I would like to share a very familiar passage of scripture:

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food

and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom,

she took some and ate it.

She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

Genesis 3:6

Did you see that? I certainly didn’t the first time I was shown.

Eve took a bite of the fruit (not an apple as some people think)

then gave it to Adam who was with her…..

Adam was with her when Eve was being tempted!!!

Why didn’t he stop the enemy?? Who knows! Maybe he froze,

maybe he didn’t know what to do but the fact remains, he was

supposed to protect Eve and he didn’t. Things would of been

much different if he did so!

And look at how crafty the enemy was. he knew God’s order

and protocol. He knew man was the head, the cover but

instead of attacking him, he went to Eve!

Let me pause here for a bit and say this, men and women are

equal in value. Man is not better than woman.

But what the enemy has done is, he has got us to focus on the

wrong thing. The issue is not if women can do what men can

do and who is better at everything. For centuries men and

women have been trying to prove who is better. From the

time we start walking we are pitted against each other.

What an embarrasement for a guy if a girl beats him!

I would love to tell you how I was beaten by a girl in a chilli

eating competition but I will have to put that on hold!

I never lived that down for quite a while especially when I

considered myself the chilli master!   🙂    Anyway………..

If we have been thinking like that then we have been deceived. The

real issue is about what God had in mind when He created man and

women because He had a clear idea.

God made man and women in His image and we all know that

there is no part of God that is weak or useless, but as men we

have this idea that women are weak, and that they are meant

to be slaves and do our every bidding. They are not encouraged to

pursue the call of God on their lives and so on…

God has a purpose for men and He has a purpose for women!

God made man to be the head. To lead their family, to guide

them and protect.

This is what God says about His purpose for women,

“Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficent, satisfactory)

that the man should be alone;

I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary)

for him.

Genesis 2:18

This verse has been misundertood so much but we really need

to take the time to study it and even ask God to show us what

He intended in the very beginning. God didn’t create her to be

your own personal slave! (are you kidding me??)

There is so much more, and remember, women are a very

specific expression of God! To understand Him better, He made

women!

Let’s keep moving…..

When we read Genesis 3 again it’s interesting to note that

when Eve took a bite of the fruit, nothing happened!

When the women saw that the fruit of the tree was good

for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining

wisdom, she took some and ate it.

It’s only when she gave the fruit to Adam and he took a bite that

their eyes were opened and they realized they were naked.

“She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and

he ate it.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized

they were naked;

Genesis 3:6, 7

Could all of this been exactly what the enemy had planned?

Did he use Eve to get to Adam?

Was that his plan, to take the man out?

It’s an interesting thought…….

But look at what happens after that,

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord

God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day,

and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

But the Lord called to the man, “Where are you?”

Genesis 3:8

Firstly, God knew exactly what happened. He was not clueless!

What’s interesting though is that He called Adam! God held him

responsible for what happened.

We see God talking to Adam from verse 9 till verse 12.

Man as the head was responsible but Adam still blamed Eve

who in turn blamed the snake. It’s important to note that God

confronted Adam first!

So what is the take home here?

Women, God gave you a purpose. Don’t let anyone dimish your

worth because of their lack of understanding. Pursue all that

God has called you to do whatever that may be.

Men, we are to lead, guide and protect. In marriage we must

make sure we are doing that. We are responsible for how we lead

our families.

Single men, we are to learn what it means to lead, guide and

protect the way God planned.

The last point is this, our value is the same. No gender is

better but when it comes to function we are very different.

We need to understand that does not make us less of a person.

We must embrace our God given differences and honor each other!

God bless you friends and Happy belated Women’s day!

Speak to build.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil

word nor unwholesome or worthless talk

[ever] come out of your mouth, but only

such [speech] as is good and beneficial

to the spiritual progress of others, as is

fitting to the need and the occasion, that

it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s

favor) to those who hear it.  Ephesians 4:29

The word is clear, crystal clear on what

we are supposed to be speaking. What are

you speaking today?

Are your words wholesome and beneficial?

This is a challenge for us all……!

May we learn to release life with the words we

speak.

In a moment of anger today I spoke bad about

someone and that was not the right thing to do.

After reading the scripture after the incident I

realized something, there is no situation that will

ever warrant a bad word being spoken!

No matter how bad things get I am to speak life!

Yes, I can confront and deal with what ever is

happening but it has to be done in the right way.

Outside of that, I am to honor God with the words I

speak.

What Valentine’s Day and fine china have in common……..

Today is Valentines Day and love is in the air. If you are single then

not so much….haha

But I am a bit disturbed. Fifty shades of Grey was released this

weekend. I am disturbed at the amount of publicity this movie

has generated. This is not a post about what’s wrong with the movie,

because there is too much on that topic.

I have noticed how the world is trying to define what love is, what

intimacy is, what connection is! Young people are going in their

droves to watch what the world has to say about relationships,

intimacy and love!!

I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sit too well with me. I am

not up for the world shaping my view about love, intimacy,

and relationships! I want God to do that. I want godly men and women

to show us the way, to teach us! I will do my part teaching the truth,

and repacing the lies the enemy is selling us! Because when it comes

to love, and intimacy the enemy doesn’t know anything! What the

enemy knows is how to pervert a good thing!

Can you believe that was the introduction??!!  😁

Lets move on…..

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with

your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner

and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing

will hinder your prayers.  1 Peter 3:7

I have been reading a book titled “Hero” by Fred Stoeker.

I shared some very intersting thoughts he had on the 1 Peter 3:7

on Instagram. Being it Valentines Day I thought it would be

appropriate to go over some of those points for those of you

who never got the chance to read them, so here goes!

In in the original Greek language, the term for “weaker partner”

can also be translated “fine china” which I think is a better

translation in this context.

How would you handle fine china? With respect as you tenderly

appreciate its finest points. You don’t slam fine china around

or put it through the blast of the dishwasher.

– end of statement –

Fine china….

I like that. Let me talk to the men for a little bit…..What would our

relationships look like if as men we treated the women in our lives

as fine china and not some bust up, rusty tin can??

Rusty bust up tin cans are thrown around, and disgarded!

They are not treated with any respect.

Rusty bust up tin cans are treated as COMMON!

Rusty and bust up

This Valentines Day I would like you to think about your relationship.

Are you honoring God in your relationships? Are you treating the

women in your life like fine china or a rusty busted up tin can?

Honor God by honoring the women in your life by treating

them like fine china. I am not saying it’s easy, I am not saying

it’s a walk in the park. What I am saying is we need to honor God

by honoring the women in our lives! On that note I will

sign off….Happy Valentines Day and remember, somewhere out

there a duck is looking your way……😁😁

Did John the Baptist really lie…….???!!

The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, Here He is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.

I knew nothing about who He was-only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize Him as the God-Revealer.

John 1:29-31

Did John know Jesus? Was he telling the truth? If you look at his history you will find something quite surprisingly. Not only did John know Jesus, he was related to Him!! Why then did John say he didn’t know who He was?

For proof they were related let’s look at Luke 1:36:

“And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant!

Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months and then went back to her home. Luke 1:56

They were related and it looked like their parents had a really good relationship!

I can see it now…….The boys grew up together. Jesus would sleep over at John’s house and vice versa. John and Jesus played together. They were close friends!

So if all this was true, why did John lie about not knowing Jesus?? He knew Him well…..

Let us look at another version to see how John identified Jesus,

The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said:

Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

John 1:29

This is what struck me about John’s response. He knew who Jesus was but He didn’t get familiar with him. He could have gone there, but instead he made a decision to not be familiar. He refused to see Him as normal; he refused to become familiar with the son of God even though he was related to Him!

This is the lesson; we all have an amazing destiny so let us look at each other in that light! Let us not become familiar with each other that we don’t see God’s hand on him or her. Let us not get familiar to the point we can’t even encourage each other!

John had every right to be familiar with Jesus but he didn’t. He focused on the call of God on His life. And because of that he got to baptize Jesus!!

How do you look at your friends?? What do you think of them? Familiarity has a way of blinding you from seeing the real part of a person! Familiarity will block you from receiving……I believe John the Baptist would have missed his chance at being blessed if he got familiar with Jesus!

I am not suggesting you get all crazy when you see your friend, crazy like bowing down before them and so on….

All I am saying is, we need to see them as having a destiny and a purpose. We can be friends but at the same realize our friends and people close to us have a purpose and as we begin to treat them like they have a purpose we free them to walk in what God has called them into.

John didn’t lie, he simply made a decision to not be familiar with Jesus and he got to baptize Him! What an honor and a privilege…..

Rolain

Was he properly honored??

I was shocked when I heard the news of Robin Williams death. He was such an amazing actor and he really impacted a lot of people. I loved a lot of his movies. As I thought about how great an actor he was I had another thought. Did he know the kind of impact he made in people’s lives? Did he know how many people loved him and appreciated him? It seems human instinct to honor people when they die but is that right? How great would it have been if he was alive to read and hear all that had been said about him today!

Honoring people when they are dead is too late. Honor them today. Don’t wait till they die. It would really honor them if you honored them while they were still alive. That is the way it’s meant to be. It’s great that Robin Williams is being honored today for all his work but how much greater would it have been if he was honored like that while he was still alive?!

This post is not about why we are not honoring actors enough. I want people to realize they don’t have to wait till people die  to honor them, no! Let us honor and appreciate the people who are in our lives today.

Rest in peace Robin Williams.

I despised being a man…..!

I have been in Kenya for almost a week. I went on a music tour with my church which was amazing. I got back last night. So I will share some of my experiences and things God showed me while in Kenya. But this post is not about how my trip went but it’s about the things I learned concerning being a man. Here is what I learned……

– Every time we go on tour the men HAVE to carry the ladies suitcases. We have to offload their bags and carry them to their rooms. I thought our leaders were being unreasonable at first. They had no idea how heavy those suitcases were. The women never packed light and in my mind I thought they should have to suffer for the way they packed their suitcases. “Let me carry their own suitcases so they learn to pack lighter” was my other thought!  mean right?!!!    hahaha
– As men there is always an expectation to lead. In prayer men should lead, in devotionals we need to be the first ones to take the responsibility to share. This was a hard lesson because there were times I didn’t feel like leading. I didn’t want to be the one who carried such a weight…..
– As men we were told to protect the women. Our job was to protect the women on tour. Protect them by not singling them out. Treat them all the same. There should be no favoritism. Treat them like sisters is what we were told. Don’t play with their feelings by leading them on.
I despised all these things and more but this time around as I was loading all the ladies luggage onto our shuttle with a few other men I realized something. I am glad for all those lessons I was taught by my leaders. They taught us how to lead the women in our lives in love, they taught us how to be real men. They showed us the value of being a man. I am glad I was made the way I was, a man! We have a a mandate from God. We were made the head for a reason. I don’t mind carrying the ladies luggage now!! I welcome it…haha. But this is not only about carrying luggage…..it’s about embracing the things that make me a man. God created us men to be strong, to lead, to be the head.
God has a special calling on the men! If there was a time when men were desperately needed to take their place it is now! The world needs men of God. Men who trust in God. Men who know who they are in Christ. Men who take care of their families, love their wives, guide their children in the way of The Lord. May we be the men God has called us to be!

The unknown truth about the rich and the poor……

It has been four days, four days since I read that specific scripture. I have not been able to shake it. God wanted to show me something and I think I see it now. The scripture I read is in Proverbs 22;2 and it says,

The rich and the poor shake hands as equals – God made them both.

God made the rich and the poor and they are equal. The rich have abundant possessions and are wealthy but they are still equal to the poor, to the man and women on the street who have nothing, who struggle just to get a single meal a day, who have to beg to get by day by day, the rich and the poor are equal! We don’t treat the poor like they are equal though. In fact, we demand they beg! How dare they come and embarrass us as we walk. Our money is our weapon against them! They are not our equals. We are superior over them. They must jump when we say jump. We think by having more than them makes us more superior, we are wrong……Lord please forgive us. We are equal! We need to treat them as such.

In the movie “The Dark Knight Rises” we see this kind of erroneous attitude at work. John Daggett who is very wealthy confronts Bane because plans have not gone according to plan.

Daggett tries to assert his authority over Bane because he is wealthy but it doesn’t work. Bane kills him. It’s this kind of attitude that the world has and even Christians. The attitude that looks down on the poor because they have nothing not realizing that God says we are equal!! I was that person. Yes, I had made a point to give to the poor as much as I could but I always saw them as inferior. But I see now, that was wrong. We are equal. The reason God has given what He has given me is so I can be a blessing. Why the poor are poor is none of my business, God just wants me to be a blessing. He wants me to see the poor the way He sees them. He wants me to treat them with respect and He wants me to honor them. They are human beings after all. They have families as well. They have problems and they have doubts, and they have dreams. They have desires and aspirations!!

Just know God has made the poor and rich alike. They are equal. Let us treat them the way God would like us to treat them. God bless….
