In the darkness, God has a plan.

I was encouraged today as I read the story of Joseph. With all that is going on with the pandemic, it’s easy to get discouraged but I was reminded that God is working in our lives in the midst of intense darkness.

So let’s get into it.

We all know the time Pharaoh had dreams and when no one could interpret the dreams someone remembered Joseph and he was summoned to interpret them. He told Pharaoh seven years of plenty would come followed by seven years of famine.

The seven years of plenty came and Joseph who had been promoted to second in charge stored away grain. He stored away so much that it became impossible to keep track of how much they were storing.

Then the seven years of famine arrived and this is what I want to focus on. The famine didn’t just affect Egypt but the whole world.

“And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.”

Genesis 41:57

It was a difficult time for the world but in that dark time God had a plan. There were some very important and key things that God was doing in that seven year famine period. I want to highlight two things.

  1. Israel reunited with Joseph, who he presumed had died.

Since the famine affected the whole world, Israel was affected too and had to send his sons to buy grain which in turn led to the discovery of Joseph. That is important because it leads us to the next key thing that happened.

       2. Israel’s entire family relocated    to Egypt because of Joseph.

Joseph made plans for his whole family to move to Egypt so they would be provided for during the famine. And that is also important because it was a fulfillment of what God told Abraham,

“Then the Lord said to him, know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.

But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.”

Genesis 15:13, 14

We know God was talking about Moses and the deliverance of Israel from Egypt.

So do you see?

In the seven year famine period, God was working and setting some big things up. And the famine had a part to play in the grand scheme of things.

God was setting pieces in place for Israel’s next chapter and that encouraged me because in this season of Covid-19, God has a plan too.

You may not see it or understand but He is working. You don’t need to stay discouraged or hopeless because He is in total control.

His plans and purposes for your life are working out in the midst of the darkness.

And that’s my encouragement to you. He will fulfill what He has promised you and this season will end.

A reason to have hope in 2021

Happy new year friends!

I hope you enjoyed your holiday and are excited and looking forward to 2021.

I for one am looking forward to all that God has in store.

As I write this we have gone back into lockdown for a whole month. To be honest, thoughts of fear, panic and anxiety started to creep in and questions like,

“How am I going to get through the month?” popped up.

But before I went down that rabbit hole I remembered all the things God did for me last year. 2020 was difficult and intense but through all that craziness God came through. He was faithful. He rescued me time and time again.

What about you?

What amazing things did He do for you?

So as we look forward there is no reason to fear 2021. We have no reason to panic and fret because as He has been faithful in 2020, He will be faithful in 2021. As He has protected us and provided for us in 2020, He will do the same for us this year. As His purpose for our lives was very much alive last year, it’s very much alive this year.

Covid-19 didn’t limit Him in 2020 and it’s not about to do so this year or any other year for that matter. He wasn’t caught off guard by 2020 so 2021 is not going to catch Him off guard!

He is still in control and because of that we have a reason to be excited and we have a reason to hope.

God is with us in 2021 and that’s all that matters!

2020: Unfazed – Part 1

I think you can agree with me that this has been a crazy year. It’s been intense, difficult, challenging,

hectic and so much more. But in the midst of the craziness, something beautiful has been emphasized

and that beautiful thing is JESUS.

His grace, power, goodness, and faithfulness have shone through the darkness and if He wasn’t with

me in this season I can confidently say I wouldn’t be here today. It’s only by His grace that I have got so

far.

So in this new series simply titled “2020” I take some time to stop and look back at all the amazing things

God has done in the hope to encourage you because as 2021 fast approaches we need to go into it full

of hope, and full of faith.

And we do that by remembering His blessings and how good He has been to us.

We also need to settle something in our hearts,

There is nothing that can faze the Lord

There is nothing that can catch Him by surprise and

There is nothing that can limit Him

No matter what the enemy throws His way, it is nothing to Him.

So as Covid-19 has wrecked havoc in the world we need to know and be reminded that

God is stronger and greater than Covid-19. He is not limited by it and it hasn’t cast a spanner

in His plans. God is working more in this time and His plans for us are very much alive in this

crazy season and even though we may have no idea what’s in store next year we know that God

is with us and is protecting us and watching over us.

No weapon formed against us will prosper.

As I conclude I want to encourage you to not limit the Lord today. Keep dreaming, keep praying

and keep taking steps of faith in all that He has shown you. Don’t let the circumstances we are in

stop you from moving. Don’t let what’s happening in the world fill you with fear.

Be expectant for what God has in store for you. Look forward in hope because God is faithful.

Bring your fears, worries and anxieties for 2021 to Him.

He is your strong tower of refuge!

Blessings to you friends!

What we can hold on to when things get hard…

David was in serious trouble. Saul was tracking him down and to make matters worse, Achish recognized him (1 Samuel 10:21-23). He had no army at the time to fight so his back was against the wall. But in the midst of all those hopeless odds the Lord delivered him.

Achish let David go because he thought he was mad and Saul never managed to capture him. How David managed to survive all that is found in Psalm 34. I want to zone in on a few key scriptures;

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”

Psalm 34:6

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles.”

Psalm 34:17

David called to God and He heard his cry and saved him out of all his troubles. That’s a truth we can hold on to through the most difficult of times.

We see this pattern and truth throughout the word.

“With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears and answers me out of His holy hill. Selah [pause and calmly think of that]”

Psalm 3:4

When you call the Lord will hear and answer you. Let your voice be heard when trouble comes. Lift up your voice to the Lord.

He wants to fight for you and He wants to help you through every trouble you face. The Lord will carry you through the storm like He did for David.

Bless you friends

Look ahead with confidence

“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.””

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17:37‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As David faced Goliath his confidence was in the God who had delivered him from the lion and the bear.

David knew Goliath had no chance against him because of what God had done before.

As you look ahead it’s important to remember what the Lord has done for you. As He brought you through last year with all its challenges and trials He will bring you through this year.

You can look ahead with confidence because the Lord who rescued and delivered you from the trials and challenges last year will do it again and again. He never let David down. He didn’t let the giant be victorious over him.

And it’s the same with you. He won’t let you down. He will deliver you and rescue you from the enemy who is standing against you. You can trust the Lord always!
